A regular online advertisement for the sale of weapons led to a search of the house of a 69-year-old man in the village of Výčapy-Opatovce, in the Nitra district. The police found a whole arsenal with the pensioner, which he kept without proper permits.
It all started when criminal police officers, while monitoring the internet, came across a suspicious listing. Its content contradicted the law on firearms and ammunition. Investigators quickly identified the seller, who turned out to be a 69-year-old local resident.
Based on the gathered information, law enforcement officers obtained a warrant to search the man's house and other premises. During the search, a significant quantity of various weapons and ammunition, which were stored illegally, was found and seized. This was reported by the Regional Police Directorate in Nitra.
An investigator has already started criminal proceedings for the crime of illegal armament and arms trafficking (nedovolené ozbrojovanie a obchodovanie so zbraňami). According to Slovak law, such a crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.
All seized items were sent for examination to the Kriminalistický a expertízny ústav Policajného zboru (Criminalistics and Expertise Institute of the Police Force). The investigation of the case is ongoing, and the police are clarifying the origin of the weapons and the motives for their sale.
