In the evening in the village of Hraň (Trebišov district), a traffic accident involving a quad bike occurred, resulting in injuries to the 26-year-old driver and his underage passenger. The police have started criminal proceedings for hitting a concrete pole.
According to preliminary police information, the 26-year-old man was driving a quad bike on a field road, outside of local traffic routes. For reasons not yet known, he crashed into a concrete electricity pole.
Consequences of the accident and investigation
As a result of the collision, both the driver and the underage passenger were injured. The passenger, according to a preliminary medical report, suffered injuries that may require up to 42 days of treatment. It is important to note that the underage passenger was wearing a properly fastened protective helmet during the ride.
Unfortunately, the 26-year-old driver also sustained injuries with a similar treatment period. However, unlike the passenger, he was not wearing a protective helmet. The police conducted an alcohol test on the driver, which was negative.
In connection with this incident, the police have initiated criminal prosecution for the offense of causing bodily harm. The exact cause of the accident is currently unknown, and all circumstances of the event remain under investigation.
Importance of a protective helmet
The police once again emphasize the importance of wearing a protective helmet when riding quad bikes and similar vehicles. "A protective helmet is not just a formality. It can determine whether you go home from such an event with injuries, or if you don't go home at all," stated the law enforcement officers, urging people to protect themselves and their passengers.
It is worth remembering that strict traffic rules apply in Slovakia, and violating them can lead to significant fines. For example, updated rules came into effect on May 1, 2026, which increase responsibility for speeding. Although these updates do not directly mention changes for quad bikes, the general trend towards increased road control highlights the need to follow all safety rules.
Additionally, it is important to know that you need a proper license to drive a quad bike in Slovakia. This is usually a Category A1 tractor-machinery driver's license, which can be obtained from the age of 16. Riding without the correct documents or without a helmet can lead to fines and other legal consequences.
