On the night of Friday, July 24, 2026, residents of the Karlova Ves district in Bratislava were woken by a strong explosion. Unknown people damaged an ATM on Pribišova street, which is another incident in a series of similar events in Slovakia. The police have already started an investigation into property crime.

What happened?

The incident happened around 02:47 AM. According to Silvia Šimková, spokesperson for the Regional Police Directorate in Bratislava, police detectives from the regional criminal police are actively working on this case. Details about the amount of damage caused have not yet been released, but it is known that the investigation is ongoing. The police promise to provide more information as soon as the procedural situation allows.

Series of ATM attacks in Slovakia

This case is not isolated. ATM attacks have been recorded in Slovakia many times before. For example, in October 2025, an ATM exploded in a shopping center on Pri Hrubej lúke street in Bratislava. At that time, unknown people damaged the entrance doors to the shopping center and then the ATM itself. The total amount of damage was also under investigation. In September 2025, ATM explosions were recorded in Madunice (Hlohovec district), Piešťany, and other cities in Slovakia.

How to protect yourself from similar crimes?

Although the direct consequences for ordinary citizens from damaged ATMs may be small, such incidents highlight the importance of vigilance and caution. Criminals are constantly looking for new ways to gain illicit profits, and, as practice shows, they do not shy away from such radical methods.

If you witness suspicious activity near ATMs or other financial institutions, report it to the police immediately at number 158. Your vigilance can help prevent a crime and protect property.
