On April 25 and 26, Bratislava will become an open-air museum. As part of the traditional City Days celebration (Bratislavské mestské dni), legendary historical transport will be on the streets. Residents and guests of the capital will be able to admire vintage trams and "Ikarus" buses, familiar to many from childhood, and also ride for free on special routes.
The Bratislava transport company has prepared three routes, each served by vehicles from different eras:
Route A (Trams): The main star will be the famous "Päťokeňák" from 1938. Together with it, iconic "Tatra" models (T2, T3, and the articulated K2), which were symbols of the city from the 1960s, will run on the tracks. The route will go through the historic center, Kapucínska Street, and the embankment.
Route H (Trolleybuses): Electric transport fans can ride classic Škoda models (9 Tr, 14 Tr, and 15 Tr). The circular route will cover the castle (Hrad), Koza Street, and Hodžovo námestie.
Route M (Buses): For a nostalgic ride, legendary Ikarus 280 "articulated" buses and the pride of Czechoslovak engineering, Karosa ŠM-11, will be launched. The buses will run between the New Scene building, Apollo Bridge, and the Petržalka embankment.
The historical vehicles will run on both weekend days from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Organizers promise that transport will appear at stops every 15 minutes. The best news: rides in the retro vehicles will be completely free.
Tip: If you want to take atmospheric photos without crowds, it's better to come to the starting stops closer to the opening of the retro lines at 10:00 AM.
