The Ministry of Interior of Slovakia announced an increase in staff for the foreigners' police department because more foreigners are coming to the country.
In the last 10 years, the number of foreigners with valid residence permits in Slovakia has grown by almost 300% — from 84,000 in 2014 to over 337,000 in 2024. At the same time, the number of residence applications has increased (by 320%), which puts extra pressure on the system due to the war in Ukraine and the arrival of workers from abroad.
To make the police work better, they plan to add more staff in three cities:
Bratislava: +50 employees
Banská Bystrica: +25 employees
Prešov: +25 employees
The main goal is to create centers that can handle many foreigners and to improve the quality of service by adding staff and extending working hours.
The increase in police staff is expected to lead to faster processing of applications, better service, and less administrative work for citizens and foreigners.
