Do you want to watch the premiere of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" in your native language without leaving Slovakia? Starting July 29, this will be possible in Bratislava: the Cinema City chain is launching screenings of the film with Ukrainian dubbing.
Screenings in Ukrainian are planned in three cinemas of the chain, and all of them are located in shopping centers in Bratislava:
- Aupark
- Eurovea
- Polus City Center
A ticket costs €11.90.
How to avoid a Slovak screening
There is an important detail here: only some screenings will be shown in Ukrainian, not the entire schedule. Most screenings of this film will be in Slovak or in the original language with subtitles.
So, when buying tickets—online or at the box office—pay close attention to the language marking of the screening. Ukrainian dubbing is marked with the letters UA. If you are booking through the website, check this marking before paying: rebooking at the last moment could cost you lost money.
Why this is an exception, not a rule, for now
Screenings of Hollywood premieres with Ukrainian dubbing in Slovak cinemas is a relatively new practice, and it appeared to support the Ukrainian community. The previous film in the franchise, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" (in Slovak distribution - Spider-Man: Cez paralelné svety), was released in Slovakia on June 1, 2023, according to the csfd.sk catalog, and it was around those screenings that Ukrainian dubbing began to appear in local cinemas.
Currently, the Ukrainian language version is announced only for "No Way Home." Whether this will become a regular practice for other premieres will depend on attendance. So, if you want more films in Ukrainian in Slovak distribution, the best argument is a full cinema hall.
Cinema City, which belongs to the European group Cineworld, operates three multiplexes in Slovakia, and all of them are located in Bratislava, as stated on the chain's page. For Ukrainians from other cities, this means a trip to the capital, but for many, the opportunity to watch a major premiere in their native language is worth it.
