If you are from Eastern Slovakia and send goods abroad, or are planning to enter foreign markets, this news is for you. FedEx has opened a new logistics center in Košice and promises a significant acceleration of delivery from the region.

What has opened

The center is located near the Košice airport. Its area is almost 1000 m², making it the second largest FedEx facility in Slovakia. Inside, there are 18 ramps for loading and unloading packages and four flexible positions that serve both courier vans and large long-haul trucks.

The main difference from a regular branch: the hub accepts not only standard packages but also palletized cargo, and has a direct connection to main transport routes. For small businesses, this means that they can send a larger volume of goods abroad without traveling to Bratislava, writes HNonline.

How much faster it will be

The figures provided by the company itself look convincing:

  • Couriers start their routes on average 45 minutes earlier.

  • The processing time for international shipments has been halved.

The launch of the center was commented on by Nebojša Vasiljević, FedEx Executive Director for Ground Operations in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. According to him, this investment is a response to the growing demand from Slovak companies that want to grow beyond their domestic market, reports KošiceDnes.

Why it is important right now

According to a FedEx study, 85% of Slovak small and medium-sized enterprises that already trade internationally plan to enter new markets. The company is betting that exports from Slovakia will continue to grow, and Košice is expected to become the eastern hub for this flow.

For Ukrainians who run online retail or manufacturing in Slovakia and send goods to Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, or further into the EU, the new hub means shorter delivery times and the ability to send pallets without intermediaries. If previously large shipments had to be transported to the west of the country, now logistics will become simpler and cheaper in terms of time.
