About the Faculty
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava is part of the country's oldest technical university. The institution is located in the capital and includes nine institutes, such as departments of applied mechanics, automotive engineering, power engineering, and automation.
Education is offered at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Students can choose programs in Slovak or English, studying process engineering, materials technology, and product quality.
To apply, you need to submit an application form (prihláška) and educational documents, paying a fee of 40 euros. Application deadlines are: April 30, 2026 (Slovak), March 31, 2026 (English), and August 8, 2026, for the second round. Students can use dormitory places (internát) upon separate registration.

How much does it cost to apply to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering STU and is tuition free?+
The fee for admission when submitting an electronic application is €40 for studies in Slovak and €80 for studies in English. Full-time studies in Slovak within the standard period are free for all students, including Ukrainians with temporary protection; the fee applies only for exceeding the study period or for a second parallel study.
The application is submitted electronically through the STU information system. Since the competition for mechanical engineering specialties is not high and there are no entrance exams, this is a realistic path for applicants with a technical inclination. Admission in Slovak in the 1st round is until April 30, 2026.

When is the deadline for submitting an application to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering STU in 2026?+
Applications for studies in Slovak are accepted until April 30, 2026, and for studies in English until March 31, 2026. If there are still vacant places after the first round, the faculty announces a 2nd round with an extended deadline until August 8, 2026.
The second round is particularly useful for Ukrainian applicants who are completing the recognition (nostrification) of their high school diploma or are deciding on their choice later. There are no entrance exams – admission is based on the average grade from high school, so the main thing is to submit the electronic application on time and pay the fee.
What specialties can be studied at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering STU?+
The faculty is built around specialized ústav-s (institutes) and offers programs in applied mechanics and mechatronics, automation and computerization of machines and processes, automobiles and mobile working machines, energy machines and equipment, measurement and quality management in mechanical engineering, and mechanical engineering technologies and materials.
This is a classic engineering education with practical training in laboratories and production; the "automobiles and mobile working machines" program is popular due to Slovakia's automotive industry (Volkswagen, Kia, Stellantis, Jaguar Land Rover). After a 3-year Bachelor's degree, studies continue with an engineering degree, and the diploma is recognized in the EU.
