On September 5, the opening of the Uzhhorod – Chop European-gauge railway section took place in Uzhhorod. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, took part in the event and thanked the railway workers for completing this project.

Thanks to the new infrastructure, Uzhhorod has become the first regional center to have a direct connection with Bratislava, Budapest, and Vienna. In the future, they plan to extend the European-gauge railway to Lviv.

President Zelenskyy emphasized that this is one of the first steps in integrating Ukrainian railways into the European network:

“It is very important that during the war, despite all the challenges, we are undertaking projects that unite. Ukraine will be part of the European Union. Definitely,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
