Did you notice more police in Bratislava and the surrounding areas on Wednesday evening? This was not by chance: a targeted anti-drug operation took place in several parts of the Bratislava region at the same time.
As reported by the regional police spokesperson Silvia Šimková, on Wednesday, July 22, police officers from the District Directorate of the Police Force in the Bratislava III district, together with fighters from the Pohotovostný policajný útvar (mobile police unit, basically Slovak SWAT), conducted an operation in several locations in the region. Its goal is to fight drug-related crime.
The police have not yet disclosed how many people were detained, where exactly the searches took place, and what was seized. According to the spokesperson, details cannot be provided due to ongoing legal proceedings. They promised to publish more information as soon as the legal situation allows.
It is worth noting: the Bratislava III district, which includes Nové Mesto, has recently been regularly mentioned in police reports specifically for drug-related issues. In May 2026, a 43-year-old woman was arrested here who had been selling heroin and pervitin from a garden plot on Kukučínova street since the beginning of the year. The police are not commenting on whether Wednesday's operation is related to this or other cases.
What this means in practice for residents: on the day of the operation, armed police officers, blocked streets, or searches could be seen in certain locations in the region. This was part of a planned operation, not a response to a specific threat to passers-by.
