Trenčín is a regional city on the Váh river with a castle on a rock and 54,104 inhabitants. In 2026, it holds the title of European Capital of Culture with the program “Cultivating Curiosity”.

The practical side is more important than the title: unemployment in the district is 2.33%, the lowest in its region (in neighboring Prievidza it's 4.05%). An industrial park of 115 hectares operates one kilometer from the D1 highway, and the market profile is automotive components, aircraft repair, and healthcare.

There are 3,692 people with temporary protection registered in the district — almost five times more than all "official" foreigners in the city according to demographic statistics (749). This is a common gap in Slovakia between two different types of records.

Emergency care

Emergency care — FN Trenčín

The on-call outpatient service for adults and children operates within the hospital grounds. A consultation costs about €2, payable by card.

🔴 We do not publish the hours of the children's on-call service on purpose. The region's portal states 8:00 AM–8:00 PM, local medical sources state 4:00 PM–10:00 PM on weekdays and 7:00 AM–10:00 PM on weekends. Two different schedules, and guessing is not an option here: call 032 6566 609 before you go. After 10:00 PM, the on-call services are closed — only the hospital's emergency room or 155 remains.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the city

Where to go in Trenčín for temporary protection?+

Go to the foreigner's police department at Jílemnického 2, phone +421 961 203 234. Registration for dočasné útočisko (temporary protection) is accepted on Thursdays, 7:30 AM–2:00 PM.

The department serves seven districts: Trenčín, Myjava, Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Bánovce nad Bebravou, Ilava, Prievidza, and Púchov.

⚠️ If you are from Považská Bystrica — you should go to Žilina, not here, even though it is formally the same region. This detail is described incorrectly in research databases.

Where to go with a child in the evening if their temperature rises?+

Go to the on-call service at the hospital complex at Legionárska 641/28, children's phone 032 6566 609.

And here, an honest answer is more important than a convenient one: we do not publish the hours because the sources contradict each other. The region's portal says 8:00 AM–8:00 PM, local medical sources say 4:00 PM–10:00 PM on weekdays and 7:00 AM–10:00 PM on weekends. These are different schedules, and a mistake here is too costly.

Therefore: call first, then travel. A check-up costs about €2, you can pay by card.

After 10:00 PM, the on-call services are closed — only the hospital's emergency room (reception 032 6566 600) or 155.

How much do transport and housing cost in Trenčín?+

Transport is cheap if you don't pay cash: a ticket costs €0.80 in the app, €1.00 by card, and €2.00 in cash to the driver. A monthly pass is €20, a discounted one is €10.

Rent as of July 25, 2026: one-bedroom €360–€580 (most are €480–€550), two-bedroom — €440–€830, median €625.

Keep in mind that the market is small: there were only 13 one-bedroom listings. Also, check live offers in the housing section.

How much does diploma nostrification cost?+

€7 if there is an international treaty between countries on the recognition of documents, and €40 if there is no treaty. The fee is valid from April 1, 2024.

In Trenčín, the regional school administration office at Hviezdoslavova 140/3 handles this, and there is a rare convenience for Slovakia here: a dedicated contact person specifically for nostrification — Mária Izraelová, phone 0918 844 589.

Office hours: Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 8:00 AM–2:00 PM, Wednesday until 3:00 PM.

Before you set off

Residents of Považská Bystrica do not go here. The Trenčín police department for foreigners serves Trenčín, Myjava, Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Bánovce, Ilava, Prievidza, and Púchov. However, Považská Bystrica belongs to Žilina — even though it is in the same Trenčín region.

Official pay statistics at city level barely exist in Slovakia, so we show the region and say which one. Office addresses and prices in the guide always carry a source and a date of checking — without those they do not appear here at all.
