Nitra is a regional city in western Slovakia: 75,301 inhabitants, about 90 km from Bratislava. For a Ukrainian family, it is perhaps the most underestimated city in the country: 8,090 people with temporary protection in the district — more than in Prešov, and the largest community among all districts of the Nitra region.

The reason is clear from the map: nearby, in Lužianky, is the Jaguar Land Rover plant, and around it is a strategic industrial park of 733 hectares with Foxconn, Giesecke & Devrient, and dozens of suppliers. Unemployment in the district is about 2.6%, one of the lowest in the country.

The second half of the city is academic: here are the Slovak University of Agriculture and Constantine the Philosopher University, with over a dozen faculties combined. Rent is noticeably cheaper than in the capital: two-room apartments mostly cost €600–€800.

Districts: where to look for a place

A short description of each district — what the housing is like and who it suits. We deliberately do not rank a “best district”.

Nitra does not have statutory city districts like Bratislava or Košice — the city is divided into neighborhoods (sídliška) with their own city committees. Prices below are individual items from a market snapshot on 07/25/2026, not averages for the districts.

Work: who is hiring here

The city's largest employers, with their industry and size taken from official sources. Headcount is given as a range — that is how the registers publish it.

Nitra lives off the car factory and industrial park. This means a lot of shift work in production with low language requirements — and at the same time, the lowest unemployment in the country, meaning competition for the worker, not for the job.

Nitra Strategic Park — 733 hectares

The region's largest industrial park: Nitra – Lužianky – Čakajovce – Zbehy, built by the state after the arrival of Jaguar Land Rover. Prologis Park is nearby. Nitra-North industrial park operates separately (over 140 ha, about 20 firms, and 3,600 employees). Together, this is the main labor market for newcomers.

At Rázusova 7, phone +421 961 573 201 (visitor window – extension 3216).

⚠️ Important: Directories still list the old address Kalvárska 2. The official list of the Ministry of Interior as of July 25, 2026, specifies Rázusova 7.

For kindergartenMay 1–31, 2026, via the eprihlasky.iedu.sk portal. The date is determined by the kindergarten director. A list of all city kindergartens is on the city hall website.

This is one of the few Slovak cities where deadlines are published directly, not as 'usually in April'.

Is it easy to find a job in Nitra?+

Unemployment in the district – about 2.6%, one of the lowest in the country. This means that employers are looking for employees more actively than employees are looking for jobs.

The main market – industrial: the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Lužianky, Foxconn and Giesecke & Devrient in the strategic park, SEBN with cable assemblies. Production usually does not require a high level of Slovak.

The second largest employer is the hospital, the third is the two universities.

Registration at ÚPSVaR on Štefánikovej 88, but not on Thursdays. Current offers – in the vacancies section.

Where to go at night if you feel unwell?+

To the emergency room of the Faculty Hospital – Špitálska 6, switchboard 037/6545 111. It operates 24/7, on the ground floors of two pavilions: the internal medicine (internal diseases and surgery) and surgical disciplines (traumatology).

Direct numbers: internal medicine 037/6545 482, surgical 037/6545 603, trauma 037/6545 619.

The queue follows the Manchester Triage System – meaning by severity, not by arrival time. In case of life threat, call 155 or 112.

We did not find a separate evening outpatient clinic (APS) with a confirmed address in Nitra – therefore, the 24/7 emergency room is the answer.

Before you set off

The Matrika (Registry Office) in Nitra does not accept appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a separate schedule within the city hall: the customer center is open, but the registry office agenda is not. This is the most common reason for a wasted trip in this city.
Thursday is the day for temporary protection registration at the police and a non-working day at ÚPSVaR (Office of Labor, Social Affairs and Family). Temporary protection registration is accepted on Thursdays until 2:00 PM, and the employment office is closed on this day.

Official pay statistics at city level barely exist in Slovakia, so we show the region and say which one. Office addresses and prices in the guide always carry a source and a date of checking — without those they do not appear here at all.
