Historic core under Nitra Castle: pedestrian zone, institutions, universities nearby, best transport accessibility.
Who it suits: for those who critically need to walk to institutions
What you need to know about living Nitra: where to look for housing and work, where to go for documents, and how to travel to Ukraine.
Nitra is a regional city in western Slovakia: 75,301 inhabitants, about 90 km from Bratislava. For a Ukrainian family, it is perhaps the most underestimated city in the country: 8,090 people with temporary protection in the district — more than in Prešov, and the largest community among all districts of the Nitra region.
The reason is clear from the map: nearby, in Lužianky, is the Jaguar Land Rover plant, and around it is a strategic industrial park of 733 hectares with Foxconn, Giesecke & Devrient, and dozens of suppliers. Unemployment in the district is about 2.6%, one of the lowest in the country.
The second half of the city is academic: here are the Slovak University of Agriculture and Constantine the Philosopher University, with over a dozen faculties combined. Rent is noticeably cheaper than in the capital: two-room apartments mostly cost €600–€800.
Every figure carries its source and period. Where a number comes from listings rather than official statistics, it is marked as a market snapshot.
typically €450–€500; in some listings, utilities are separate, about €100
the main bulk €600–€800; 97 listings in the selection
annual — €165, concession €99. One of the cheapest fares in the country
cash to the driver — €0.80. Concession €0.30 / €0.50. You can pay by bank card directly at the validator
one of the lowest rates in Slovakia — a consequence of the car plant and industrial park nearby
the largest district in the region (14,632 in the country). For comparison: Nové Zámky 2,286, Šaľa 1,237
the largest growth among all regions of Slovakia (+4.9% real). Statistics do not provide an absolute figure for the region for this period
of whom 810 are from the EU. Temporary protection is not included in demographics — hence the gap with the 8,000 above
A short description of each district — what the housing is like and who it suits. We deliberately do not rank a “best district”.
Nitra does not have statutory city districts like Bratislava or Košice — the city is divided into neighborhoods (sídliška) with their own city committees. Prices below are individual items from a market snapshot on 07/25/2026, not averages for the districts.

Peripheral areas and annexed villages within the city — closer to industrial zones and the R1 expressway exit.

The city's largest employers, with their industry and size taken from official sources. Headcount is given as a range — that is how the registers publish it.
Nitra lives off the car factory and industrial park. This means a lot of shift work in production with low language requirements — and at the same time, the lowest unemployment in the country, meaning competition for the worker, not for the job.
The region's largest industrial park: Nitra – Lužianky – Čakajovce – Zbehy, built by the state after the arrival of Jaguar Land Rover. Prologis Park is nearby. Nitra-North industrial park operates separately (over 140 ha, about 20 firms, and 3,600 employees). Together, this is the main labor market for newcomers.

This is one of the few Slovak cities where deadlines are published directly, not as 'usually in April'.
Unemployment in the district – about 2.6%, one of the lowest in the country. This means that employers are looking for employees more actively than employees are looking for jobs.
The main market – industrial: the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Lužianky, Foxconn and Giesecke & Devrient in the strategic park, SEBN with cable assemblies. Production usually does not require a high level of Slovak.

We did not find a separate evening outpatient clinic (APS) with a confirmed address in Nitra – therefore, the 24/7 emergency room is the answer.

Official pay statistics at city level barely exist in Slovakia, so we show the region and say which one. Office addresses and prices in the guide always carry a source and a date of checking — without those they do not appear here at all.
